IN MEMORY OF PHYLLIS SPIRA

Our long term goal is to provide custom built dance studios incorporating a small theatre, internet cafe/training centre and children's cafe in the township of Gugulethu which is 15km from Cape Town. It is also where Phillie (Phyllis Spira) used to teach.

In the future it is our goal to raise money for these two companies through small donations by standing order and it is our intention to pay the dancers direct from the company fund. In the past we have only provided products - such as pointe shoes, sound systems, Harlequin flooring etc. The company fund will ensure the dancers are paid on a regular basis directly.

Over the years we have provided tap shoes for the Eoan Group, pointe shoes for the Cecil Jacobs Dance Project, written new syllabi and provided teaching for Adult Starter Ballet, Tap and Pilates. The video below was filmed at a company class in the New Space Theatre Studio in Long Street, Cape Town and shows just a sample of what is made possible by your donations.

Past Projects

From the first half of 2010 we have gathered the necessity to fund the iKAPA Dance Theatre company and the emerging company of the Eoan Group. IKAPA does a huge amount of outreach work, with members of the company teaching classes in the townships. Although the government provide funds for outreach work there is no funding for the companies themselves. We feel that apart from the teaching aspect of the company dancers, The Company gives the children a goal to reach for.
